REBECCA ROSS
(Book 2 in the Letters of Enchantment duology)
Synopsis:
The epic conclusion to the intensely romantic and beautifully written story that started in Divine Rivals.
Two weeks have passed since Iris Winnow returned home bruised and heartbroken from the front, but the war is far from over. Roman is missing, and the city of Oath continues to dwell in a state of disbelief and ignorance. When Iris and Attie are given another chance to report on Dacre’s movements, they both take the opportunity and head westward once more despite the danger, knowing it’s only a matter of time before the conflict reaches a city that’s unprepared and fracturing beneath the chancellor’s reign.
Since waking below in Dacre’s realm, Roman cannot remember his past. But given the reassurance that his memories will return in time, Roman begins to write articles for Dacre, uncertain of his place in the greater scheme of the war. When a strange letter arrives by wardrobe door, Roman is first suspicious, then intrigued. As he strikes up a correspondence with his mysterious pen pal, Roman will soon have to make a decision: to stand with Dacre or betray the god who healed him. And as the days grow darker, inevitably drawing Roman and Iris closer together…the two of them will risk their very hearts and futures to change the tides of the war.

My Review:
PROS:
- I LOVE Iris and Roman. They're one of my favorite couples!
- It was fun to explore some more of the world and its lore! There was a lot more magic in this one than in the previous book too.
- The writing was beautiful, as always.
- I thought Dacre and Enva's characters were super interesting and intriguing. I would read a prequel about them, honestly.
- I still think it's very unique and special!
- The epilogue was super sweet!
CONS:
- I think my love for book 1 and these characters that's making me give this such a high rating. On it's own, its a little slow.
- SPOILER: Iris and Roman had limited page-time together, which was super disappointing. I was on the ARC team for book 1, so I've been waiting forever to see them get back together. It just wasn't what I imagined.
- THE AMNESIA TROPE. It's the bane of my existence. I don't think it's ever made any book better, and it usually turns out worse (I blame the Gallagher Girls series for my hatred)
- MAJOR SPOILER:
Forest and his girlfriend's deaths (I'm so sorry, I can't remember her name). They felt extremely pointless—which was probably the point. But I would have loved to see Iris mend her relationship with Forest. He and Roman could have had a good relationship too.
