JENNIFER LYNN BARNES

(Book 4 in the Naturals series)

Synopsis:

New victims. New betrayals. New secrets.

When Cassie Hobbes joined the FBI’s Naturals program, she had one goal: uncover the truth about her mother’s murder. But now, everything Cassie thought she knew about what happened that night has been called into question. Her mother is alive, and the people holding her captive are more powerful—and dangerous—than anything the Naturals have faced so far. As Cassie and the team work to uncover the secrets of a group that has been killing in secret for generations, they find themselves racing a ticking clock.

The bodies begin piling up, the deaths hit closer and closer to home, and it soon becomes apparent that this time, the Naturals aren’t just hunting serial killers.

They’re being hunted themselves.

Bad Blood

My rating:  ★★★★★

Categories: YA, suspense, thriller, mystery, romance, other

Content:

Language:  Limited use of minor swear words

ViolenceMentions of kidnappings, burning alive, stabbings, brutal murder, descriptions of poisonings, gruesome and ritualistic torture (though there isn't much description), drugging, killing animals, and a large theme of cult mentality.  A lot of the themes of the story center on violence, but there is little gory detail.

Sex: Short descriptions of kisses (one which takes place in bed, and the couple ends up sleeping in the bed together, though it seems unlikely that they had sex), allusions to and mentions of sex, affairs, allusions to sexual assault/rape.

LGBTQ: The basis for a potential lesbian relationship is laid.

My Review: This was the worst book in the Naturals series, but I still enjoyed the ride and I absolutely love all these characters!  I wish it would have followed the format of the rest of the books more (the Naturals working to stop a serial killer), but there was still plenty of mystery and intrigue.  Some of the plot twists toward the end had me raising my eye brows a bit, but still a great finish to a great series.
